Albert F. "Pete" Sloan (1929 -  )

     Born in Charlotte, NC, Albert F. "Pete" Sloan joined the Lance food company in 1954, at the age of 25. Starting at $65 a week salary, Sloan would work his way up tje organization through manufacturing.		  




   
 Junior Achievement		    Company founders Philip Lance and Salem Van Every had instituted values such as hard work and loyalty and son Philip Van Every had maintained them.
   Rewarding that hard work, Sloan was named assistant vice president of manufacturing. Later, he was elevated to executive vice president and in 1976, Pete Sloan was named president and chairman of Lance, Inc., serving in those positions until his retirement in 1991.
   During his 15-year term leading Lance, Sloan faced substantially increased competition to Lance in the snack food industry. But he focused Lance products on quality and saw steady growth of the firm. Lance's market capital in 1976 was $121 million. When he retired in 1991, the company's market capital had grown to $659 million.
   In 1988, the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce awarded Sloan with its Excellence in Management Award.
   He is married to Marcia Twitty.
