Rewarding that hard work, Sloan was named assistant vice president of manufacturing. Later, he was elevated to executive vice president and in 1976, Pete Sloan was named president and chairman of Lance, Inc., serving in those positions until his retirement in 1991.
During his 15-year term leading Lance, Sloan faced substantially increased competition to Lance in the snack food industry. When he retired in 1991, the company's market capital had grown to $659 million.
